Explosive Remnants of War (ERW) affect many countries Globally. By the very nature of armed conflict conventional & non conventional arms, ammunition of all kinds, specialist high value weapons and unexploded ordnance of many types contaminate and deny the use of land, be it rural, urban or industrial. The ERW Risk Management Training courses we use a progressive holistic approach to deliver a three stage training package enabling those working in hazardous areas and ERW rich environments to operate safely, which is key to protecting life, assets and futures. The ERW Risk Management packages are designed for ease of understanding and progressive learning, from Introductory Level (Bronze) ‘Awareness Officer’, Intermediate Level (Silver) ‘Awareness Manager’ and Advanced Level (Gold) ‘Risk Assessor’. The syllabus for each course is as follows:
ERW Risk Awareness Manager (Silver Standard – Intermediate Level)
Module One: General Overview & Introduction into Humanitarian Mine Action Processes
- Introduction into UXO & mine clearance procedures, including assets & methodology used;
- Introduction into General Mine Action Assessment (GMAA), non-technical survey & suspected hazardous areas (SHA), including cancellation & verification;
- Understand IMAS clearance standards, clearance certificates & the process of handing back of cleared land to the end user (land release) ;
Module Two: Introduction to Information Management System for Mine Action (IMSMA)
- What is IMSMA & what does the system provide;
- Understanding of IMSMA outputs & reporting as a planning & management tool;
- Understand examples of IMSMA reports & mapping & how they are used in mine action for threat & risk assessment;
Module Three: ERW Risk Management Process, including ISO 31000 Framework
- ERW risk management process & framework;
- Detailed risk assessment;
- Risk mitigation & implementation;
Module Four: ERW Preliminary Risk & Detailed Risk Assessment
- Objectives & processes for ERW preliminary & detailed risk assessment;
- Outputs for ERW preliminary & detailed risk assessments;
- Samples of ERW preliminary & detailed risk assessments, including process flow charts;
